Vizcaya Museum and Gardens is a historic estate in Miami, Florida, United States. It was built in the early 20th century by James Deering, a wealthy businessman and art collector, and designed by architect Paul Chalfin. The estate was built in the Mediterranean Revival style and featured a main house with 34 rooms, formal gardens, fountains, sculptures, and an extensive collection of art and decorative objects.
Vizcaya was completed in 1916 and remained Deering’s winter residence until he died in 1925. The estate was then sold to a group of businessmen who planned to develop the property, but public opposition led to the creation of the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens in 1952. Today, the estate is open to the public as a museum and cultural center and is a popular tourist destination in Miami.
